How I Work
Not to get all Zen on you, but I have learned that the best relationships are open ones. To find out what you can expect when we work together, roll over the boxes.
Discovery. We’ll talk, either in person, or over the phone. I’ll ask about your company, sales and marketing objectives, the competition, what you like and don’t like about your current web site or marketing materials and your expectations for the project at hand. Don’t worry, I’ve done this hundreds of time, and it isn’t painful at all. In fact, it can be rather enjoyable.
Estimating & Billing. I’ve developed this simple process so nobody suffers any nasty shocks come invoice time:
- You always receive a detailed Initial Quote describing project parameters and my deliverables. You sign this before I begin work.
- If project scope changes significantly mid-stream, you will be asked to sign a Change Order with new parameters and deliverables.
- When you sign the Initial Quote, you pay a third of the estimate up front. If the project is lengthy, I progress bill another one-third, otherwise you receive a final bill once I turn over my deliverables. Full payment is due upon receipt.
Collaboration. In order to do my job, I’ll need a few things from you. Access is the main thing: to information, people, materials, references, etc., so I can gather what I need to produce good copy. Time is another thing. Unlike FedEx, I don’t absolutely positively get it there overnight. It usually takes a bit longer to craft quality copy. Speedy approvals are always appreciated. As is mutual respect when reviewing copy changes– see number seven in Ten Reasons to hire Two Hats.
